Environmental Monitoring of Drilling Operations at the Platform Rig Located on the Turkmenistan Shelf of the Caspian Sea (Ongoing)

Currently ESI is performing an Environmental Monitoring Program of the drilling operations on the Caspian shelf of Turkmenistan. This Program has been developed by ESI within the frame of the Project: "Development of a Set of Environmental Documents for Drilling Operations on an Offshore Platform Located on the Turkmenistan Shelf of the Caspian Sea (2000)" and it is the first full-scale environmental monitoring program carrying out in Turkmenistan in accordance with western standards and practice.

ESI has acquired and installed on the Platform a modern computerized weather station, which is measuring and recording a complex of meteorological parameters on an hourly basis. These measurements are downloaded on the computer located on the Platform and then they are transmitted to the ESI representative in Ashgabad (Capital of Turkmenistan), to the ESI headquarter in Baltimore, USA, and to the ESI client. Meteorological data is included into Periodic Monitoring Reports.

ESI has also acquired and brought in Turkmenistan a set of the state-of-the-art monitoring and analytical equipment, which allows ESI to perform significant amount of monitoring measurements in situ in the field. Chemical analyses of the samples collected by ESI are performed by two the best equipped and the most qualified analytical laboratories of Turkmenistan.

The Monitoring Program includes periodic sampling and analyses of ambient air, surface and near-seabed water, seabed sediments, discharge wastewater, and drill cuttings. All media are analyzed for a complex of inorganic and organic constituents in accordance with the country and international standards.
